Double Role: Lecturing on Morality in Public and Being Immoral in Private

Hassan: We only hear about the news of sexual assault, molestation, murder and kidnap of women in the society. But here is the story of a priest, Fr Sylvester Antony, from Tamil Nadu, who chose to be the messenger of God and also coveted someone else's wife.
Roger (name changed) married a Hindu girl Preeti (name changed) 10 years ago, and has 2 daughters, aged 5 and 4 years. According to Roger, Preeti hails from a poor family. One day they met in Hassan and fell in love at first sight. "Preeti proposed to me and I accepted her proposal, and we were married within 15 days of our first meeting." Roger never said no to his wife's demands. He worked hard to keep her happy in every way.

Roger and Preeti are blessed with 2 daughters. It was a very happy marriage. His parents being government servants were staying away from Roger. The real problem arose in the family when Roger's parents retired and came to live with him in Hassan.
Preeti was not able to bear it. She started to complain with her husband about her parents-in-law. She also attempted to commit suicide twice. Roger and his parents were shocked by this kind of attitude and changes in Preeti, but failed to realize that the suicide attempts were just an eyewash to make Roger's parents leave the place. Roger's parents filed a complaint against Preeti and her attitude of committing suicide.
Preeti threatened Roger saying that she would end her life if he did not find a separate house for her. Roger was blinded by Preeti's love, and whatever she asked or demanded, he fulfilled her desires. Finally Roger bowed to Preeti's will and separated from his parents to keep her happy.
Then on, Preeti, fully aware of Roger's weakness, started to control him. Roger being a vehicle dealer in Sakleshpur was doing good business and used to be in the office from 9 am to 9 pm most of the days. For Preeti it was a golden opportunity.
Fr Sylvester Antony was a priest transferred to Infant Jesus Church, Mutsagar, Sakleshpur in Hassan district, 2 years ago. Preeti who belonged to the same parish used to go to church there for mass. As time passed Preeti and Fr Sylvester were attracted towards one another and their friendship grew stronger day by day. Finally their friendship led Fr Sylvester to Preeti's bedroom. Meanwhile Roger was not aware of what was going on behind his back and was still madly in love with Preeti thinking that she was made for him.
It is now known that one fine day during her parents-in-law's stay with them, she had expressed to her husband her desire to visit her parents for a couple of days. As planned she took her 4-year-old daughter and went to Bangalore along with the priest, instead of going to her parents' house in Anantapur. She spent 2 nights with the priest in Bangalore and came back.
People in the neighbourhood also started to talk about the extramarital affair of Preeti and Fr Sylvester, but Roger did not believe this. According to some neighbours when the priest used to come to Preeti's house to meet her, she used to send her 4-year-old daughter to bring chocolates and lock the door without even bothering to open it when her daughter came back.
This game of love went on for one-and-a-half year in Roger's house. When Roger's parents started to stay with him, Preeti felt uncomfortable to be in contact with the priest, so the priest had bought a new mobile with SIM card for Preeti for their personnel use.
When Roger smelt something fishy going on in his house in his absence, he too started sending SMS to his wife in the priest's name, Preeti was immediately responding to the SMS thinking that it was from the priest. On July 18, when Roger asked Preeti about her affair with the priest, she got wild and threatened Roger, saying that if he suspected her and ask such questions, she would consume cyanide.
Roger recalls and says that these were the tactics which she had also used to get married within a short time after their first meeting. Now Roger says he has all the evidence including the videos sent to her mobile by the priest. She has even destroyed her mobile smashing it to the floor when she was made to watch her own nude pictures in various poses with the priest.
Roger with the advice of the police in order to find the truth bought a new mobile and the same SIM card so that all the call details could be traced. After the SIM card was handed to the police on July 19, police have traced all the numbers which were dialled from her number and the SMSs to the priest. The so-called priest had even recorded clippings of his compromising postures with Preeti and forwarded it to her mobile. During investigation the truth has also come to light that the priest and Preeti had intimate relationship which crossed all limits.
As soon as the news spread, the priest, Fr Sylvester, has fled from the Church and is absconding. Roger asks why his wife did not think of her innocent daughters before indulging into such heinous acts. He says, "She never thought of her innocent daughters, but I will keep my promise which I had made in front of the altar to the Bishop at the time of our marriage."
Now the question is as to why Fr Sylvester being a priest did do this ? Being a priest his work is to spread the good news to the people. One of the Ten Commandments clearly mentions, "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife".
If a preacher himself breaks the commandment of God, what about the common man? Where these priests are heading forward ? We all know that priests are also human beings. The priests also very well know their obligations once they join the seminary, even then if the priests cannot control their sexual feelings, the laws must be changed.
Nowadays this kind of news is heard from time to time from different directions. Many priests are becoming the main reason for people to mock at the Christian community. Such priests should be severely punished with all the force of the law.
If those who are expected to be conscience-keepers of the society break the commandment, it could be a good excuse for those of the laymen, who give lectures and give advice on morality and ethics in public, while themselves indulging in extramarital affairs behind the screens.

There was a diciple called JUDAS with Jesus. Therefore, all priests are not Judas and also not sinners.
It's a shame what a priest had done. Preaching to whom. In Bible, book of chorinthians St.Paul clearly mentions " if a man cannot control his passion then get marry'. Priesthood also based on sacrifices.

| First of all, let us accept that there is no God as described by any of the religions. It is a figment of the church's imagination which is used to control the people. Second, the priest is just human and in this case he also has a transferable job, which means he is just an employee of a church following the corporate governance and nothing more. Lastly, the woman is of loose morals, it were not the priest, it would be the neighbor or some student or pick something. This is something that has happened for ages and will still continue, this is a human short coming that can never be stopped but controlled perhaps with therapy or control. In the example of adulteress/prostitute, Jesus forgave her sin but did not excuse it.How many people today take that one verse from the Bible and apply it wrongly? They will tell others that no one can tell them that what they are doing is wrong, because that would be judging them. Then they throw out the verse where Jesus said “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. And since we are all sinners, then that means that no one can tell anyone that what they are doing is sinful.
Let’s take a look at this strange philosophy and dissect it. First off, “to judge”, as it is used in “Judge not, lest you be judged”, means to condemn someone on moral grounds, and then to pass judgment. Only God can condemn and pass judgment. “To judge” as it is used here does not mean that people cannot discern that an act is sinful, nor does it mean we can’t tell the sinner that he or she is sinning.
If that were so, then parents could not ever tell their child that it is wrong to lie, to cheat, or to steal. And if the child were caught in the act, then no parent could tell him or her that they were wrong. And they could certainly not ever punish the child, because there could never be any wrongdoing. How dumb is that? Carried to its logical conclusion, no one could ever tell anyone that anything is sinful or wrong, including fornication, adultery, stealing, murder, taking the Lord’s name in vain, etc. And we would have to fire every judge in every courtroom worldwide. St. John the Baptist, the greatest man born of woman, according to Jesus, certainly told Herod that it was wrong for him to have married his own brother's wife. And John the Baptist was certainly not judging Herod himself, but rather, he was judging his action as sinful. BIG difference.To admonish the sinner means to caution him or her about a particular sin they are committing. This is the job of all Christians, to warn others about sin and where it will lead them.
How many people just go with the flow of pornography, fornication, adultery, homosexual marriage, abortion, assisted suicide, etc., and never speak out against these evils because they don’t want to be belittled by the so-called “mainstream media”? A lot. The devil only has one commandment, “Do as you will”. So many people in the world today follow that demonic philosophy, and they really hate it when Christians bring up the fact that sin exists.

There was an old priest who got sick of all the people in his parish confessing to adultery.
One Sunday, in the pulpit, he said, "If I hear one more person confess to adultery, I'll quit!"
Well, everyone liked him, so they came up with a code word. Someone who had committed adultery would say instead that they had 'fallen.'
This seemed to satisfy the old priest and things went well until the priest passed away at a ripe old age.
A few days after the new priest arrived, he visited the mayor of the town and seemed very concerned.
"Mayor, you have to do something about the sidewalks in town. When people come into the confessional, they keep telling me they've fallen."

As Arron has been called to serve the GOD Almighty, no one can serve / survive in GOD unless being called. But, what a pity here 90% are forced to be as priests or nuns with out their own decision, then the results will be ending like this.
It not only prevails in Roman Catholic sector now a days but also in other Christian denominations are facing this filthy fleshy disputes even the preachers or pasters are living with their own wifes and chilren.
As we see the degradation in civilization in this century that has corroded all segments including these pristhood and hermets, it would be rediculus if we try to find out this chastity among us all.

| Jesus said 'He who has not sinned, let him throw the first stone'. When it comes to judge others, we take free ride but do we bother to see the log in our own eyes? Make no mistake, I am not defending the priest but fully agree that he is at fault. But, let us agree that priest is also a human being exactly like you and I, who has opted the profession of serving God. When the soul takes over the spirit, things move in a diffrent direction than God's plan and we commit sin. As layman, it is our duty to seperate oursevles from Priests and Nuns from worldly pleasures/distractions and allow them to do the profession they are called for. It is very easy to condemn them but how many of us send atleast one person from our family to become priese or Nun? |

Some ladies don't even konw to dress up neatly while going to church.
Some parents as well as priests force children to become a priest.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.Poor Fr. Sylvester who got caught...what about the scores & scores of priests who do it on the sly....?
Point is...priests/ nuns & clerics including the Pope himself have biological needs as anyone else and so need the freedom to choose their marital status.
Urgently required is a scrapping of the archaic mandatory vow of celibacy for the clergy laid down by a belligerent Roman Catholic Church down the ages.
JESUS never preached/encouraged/advocated celibacy for anyone at all...so why this law for the poor priests & nuns?
Let them have a decent life as anyone else rather than force them to indulge in ADULTERY, PEDOPHILIA,HOMOSEXUALITY,VOYEURISM,or whatever else as the case may be. |

Very well written.This is a heinous crime and who knows what repercussions have affected the poor victims.The sex scandal in the Catholic Church is very disturbing and annoying. We can pray for those who committed these awful crimes and pray for the children and women who suffered sexual abuse.

We find in the Old Testament that God raised up prophets (Deut. 18:15-22) but false prophets were to be killed (Deut. 13:1-5, 18:20, Jer. 23:14-15).Most Christians nowadays simply don't care about the prevalence of false doctrine, nor do they take seriously their duty to fight against apostasy.

Its people,their mentality not that law of the church which needs to be changed. Priesthood is not compulsion but optional.So whoever opts for priesthood must maintain celibacy also!
Same theory applies to married couple too.They take oath to be partners in life in all situations. Society needs to maintain morality not the change of law.

Priest hood is become a business, as per their vocation they are suppose to live behind all worldly things and spread the religion, instead they are taking care of the religion which is already established by the missionaries. They try to rule over the people, I have spend many years with priest and I have many incidents where they have crossed their limits.
Most of the apostles of Jesus were above 30 years and most of them were married,they left behind everything and went to different directions to spread the good news, then how come our priest are staying in their own birthplace and enjoying all the modern amenities??
By the way we are not suppose to question them!!!! they are the shepherd and we are the sheep!!! |

| All commenting against the priest. What about that lady who is the cause of the sin. She had a loving n caring husband and sweet kids and caring family. Why should she be after this priest? The lay people need to keep a distance from these men and women who have entered religious orders. Its a struggle for them to remain pure. So need to pray for them and not cause them to sin. |

Regardless of whether priests are homosexual, bisexual or heterosexual, the real problem lies with the hierarchy’s seeming inability to deal with human sexuality in an emotionally healthy way. Disguised in religious jargon and contrived theology, mandatory celibacy is really about control of the celibate’s sexual life and prohibiting the intimacy and companionship that marriage provides. Jesus christ was God hence he was able to lead a pure single life avoiding sins and temptations but Catholic priests and nuns are mere human beings,even though they try to follow christ example they fail because they truely not following christ ,only in lips they follow and they are carnal in nature like worldy man.

Church "needs to update its teaching" on issues of sexuality and gender.Cathoic Church won't allow their members to hear both sides of an issue, and especially they don't want them to examine opposing arguments regarding truth and error.These churches are afraid of being exposed and of losing their members.

Makes promises he does not keep?
Carries anger in his heart, into the church, onto the altar?
Receives the Eucharist with anger in his heart and without making peace?
Takes advantage of the elderly and the ignorant to protect himself?
Misleads community leaders in order to defend his own evil?
Attempts to injure the innocent secretly and by ambush?
What if that priest says “a priest should not touch money,” but spends it freely?
What would you think of a priest who asks you to make a hotel reservation for his priest’s retreat, but not in the hotel with the other priests because he wants to stay away from the “gossips.” Who are the “gossips” he’s trying to avoid? What would the “gossip” be?
What if the priest made an agreement, did not keep it, and then unethically tries to deny it? What if the priest’s conduct injured a parishioner’s reputation and caused him financial loss? What if the priest were guilty of wrongdoing and the parishioner were blameless?
What if the priest were too proud to admit his weaknesses and refused help to bridge the gaps? What if those weaknesses were shortchanging the faithful of his parish community?
What if the parishioners in the priest’s parish community were brainwashed by the priest, and not knowing his true self, were recruited to protect him?
What if the parish leadership, for one reason or another, believed the corrupt priest and stepped up to defend him, and the priest allowed this?
What if the corrupt priest’s conduct led to legal action against the priest, the parish, the church?
What if the priest did all of this because he lost his spirituality and did not forgive as the Gospels command; what if he led his parishioners into sin through his evil?
What if the parishioners didn’t care? What if they didn’t ask the right questions?
What if the parish community, guided by the priest, became hateful and exclusive?
What if the parish community condemned the truth and the bearer of the truth, and welcomed the false prophet?
Would anyone, the priest, the parishioners, the parish leadership be justified in calling themselves Christians? Would they be sinning if they received the Eucharist?
Now what if the priest refused to make peace with the innocent parishioner but worse still, attempted to force the parishioner to be silent and to sign a false apology as a condition of making peace?
Are these not the characteristics that Jesus Christ and the Evangelists, the Church Fathers preached against? Aren’t these the characteristics of the hypocrites?

I agree with you Joyce,India.
For all those who say "If the preacher himself breaks the commandments what about the common man?", kindly be reminded that the Commandments were given by God and not by any human beings. So, imitate Jesus and not the priest whether he is law abiding or a law-breaker. One who has not sinned, may he be the first one to cast a stone.
And one more thing, who allowed the unfaithful wife to go after a priest? First, we keep our wives on a pedestal and worship them as if they are Gods even to the extent of bowing to their pressure tactics to the extent of keeping the parents out of equation and then we cry fowl! How pathetic!!!Mr.Roger. You broke the 4th commandment first and your wife followed your suit!
I am not justifying the other offender's actions here. Like Joyce, India said, May God be the judge. I am sure, the priest didn't come searching for Preeti first but it was vice versa. |

Because of the ridiculous (and un-Scriptural) refusal to allow priests to marry. When your doctrine goes as far off base as Catholic theology does, these are the kind of perversions that result.

There have been some horrible cases of bad Priests all over the world.When a priest has sexually abused someone the church does not fire them they just transfer them to another church and then the priest will then do the same thing there and get transfered to another church.

If a Roman Catholic priest is allowed to marry and have children the money he makes during his lifetime will be given to his family, and the Catholic Church would lose it. That is one reason the Papacy will never allow priests to marry.

Again, the concept of confession of sin to a priest is nowhere taught in Scripture. We are to confess our sins to God (1 John 1:9). As New Covenant believers, we do not need mediators between us and God. We can go to God directly because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. 1 Timothy 2:5, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

Well Priest are human and of course even married people cannot keep their vows of fidelity but there are some who do.
As said everybody has to be in prayer to resist the temptations around. As it is said
we have to be cautious which ever vocation one is called to be. Sad that the priest fell into this situation since he is married to God.
But we are all sinners in one way or other.

Sad story
I personally think Roger should divorce his wife and the priest should get out of priesthood and get married to love of his life. Roger needs to take it easy on the vows, just becuase you have taken a vow, you don't have to make your life miserable.

"if Priests are not behaving like a Priest then what's the intention of attending the mass??...it's like Devil is offering the mass. It's better to go to chapel and pray silently with God rather than hearing mass from Devil's followers.
