Beltangady: Theft of Jewellery, Cash Worth Rs 5.50 Lakh from Laila House

Beltangady: Thieves broke into a locked house at Kakyena in Laila village near here and took away valuables and cash worth lakhs last week.

The owner, Vishwanath Shetty, had locked the house on August 11 and left for Bangalore to visit his daughter's house. The neighbours noticed that the door of the house was open on Saturday, August 18 morning, although the owner had not returned.

They immediately informed Shetty, who rushed back home at once. On arrival on Sunday, the theft was confirmed. Things stolen included gold ornaments weighing 24 sovereign like bracelet, bangles and chains, and Rs 5,000 in cash, the total value of which is said to be Rs 5.50 lakh.

A case has been registered by the town police here.
