Mumbai Police registers complaint against anti-Muslim film

Mumbai (IANS) The Mumbai Police Friday registered a case against "Innocence of Muslims", a controversial film that has ignited protests all over the Muslim world as well as Sam Bacile, the film's producer.

A Mumbai-based lawyer, Zulfiqar Memon has alleged that the contents of the film are against Islam and have hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims.

On the basis of his complaint, a case has been registered under Section 66 of the Information Technology Act and under Section 295A (outraging religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code said a senior crime branch official.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy confirmed the development. The case has been registered under the cyber cell of the Mumbai Police crime branch.

According to latest reports, at least 14 people have been killed in worldwide protests against the film. The protests also triggered an attack on US diplomats in eastern Libya, which led to the death of US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three embassy staffers.
