Manipal: Manipal Centre for Virus Research (MCVR) will hold a five-day training workshop with WHO on Influenza Surveillance, Diagnosis and Control at the research centre here in manipal University from September 17, 2012. The inauguration of the workshop will take place at 8.30 am.
Professor and Head of MCVR, Dr Arunkumar, who is also the program coordinator said that several top scientist of the country will be here as resource persons. A total of 30 microbiologists from Kerala, Karnataka and Goa will be attending the workshop, including scientists from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) virology labs, medical colleges and state health services.
The chief guest for the inaugural function will be Dr P Ravindran, director, Emergency Medical Relief, Directorate General Health Services, Government of India. Others who will be present for the workshop are: Dr Shashi Khare, Additional Director, National Centre for Disease Control, DGHS, Government of India, Dr A.C. Mishra, Director, NIV, Pune and Dr Ritu Chauhan, National Professional Officer, WHO, India.
The speakers will discuss how to improve the country’s preparedness for an outbreak of influenza pandemic in the future. Other speakers from Kerala, Delhi, Bhopal, Goa and Odisha will also be present.
