Mangalore: A huge tanker laden with formaldehyde, a hazardous chemical, from Hangarkatta to the Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) factory near Kulur rolled over into a ditch near the entrance gate on Thursday.
As the chemical began spilling over, MCF's in-house fire tenders and those from the city's fire station rushed to the spot and took precautionary steps. This averted all possible chances of any disaster.
One side of the dual carriageway was blocked. The Panambur police arrived and ensured smooth two-way movement of vehicles on the other lane.
The driver and the conductor had a lucky escape in the mishap. The tanker was brought to its upright position by using a mechanical crane. |
