Mumbai, Sep 20 (IANS) It’s been two years since “The Lunchbox” hit the screens in India — and the film’s team, including actor Irrfan Khan, can only smile back at the success story it scripted across the globe.

“He wasn’t fond of small talk or forced interactions. One day, a stray lunchbox had a conversation with his soul. Two years to ‘The Lunchbox’,” Irrfan tweeted on Sunday.

Directed by Ritesh Batra, the movie tells a unique love story between a lovelorn wife, essayed by Nimrat Kaur, and a lonely man, played by Irrfan.

The out-of-the-box narration and picturisation, coming out of a land whose cinema has thrived on song-and-dance sequences for years together, was met with acclaim at film festivals worldwide.

It was also nominated in the Film Not in the English Language category of the British Academy Film Awards 2015, following its release in Britain.

“The Lunchbox” was jointly produced by multiple studios like DAR Motion Pictures, UTV Motion Pictures, Dharma Productions, Sikhya Entertainment, National Film Development Corporation (India), ROH Films (Germany), ASAP Films (France), and the Cine Mosaic (US).

Guneet Monga of Sikhya Entertainment told IANS: “It has truly been our most global film till date and we couldn’t have done this without Ritesh and our co-producers from all over who believed in it. It did so well internationally and in India too.

“The success story for us has also continued with ‘Masaan’. I hope we continue to make such films.”
