Officials Stop Child Marriage at Perampalli

Udupi: District women and child welfare department officials, Police and revenue officials stopped the proposed marriage of a minor girl in the district on Monday, December 11.

Officials received information that a minor girl, daughter of Sreesha Bhat was to be married off on Monday in Perampalli. Based on the instructions of Udupi DC Priyanka Mary Francis, the team led by Gracy Gonsalves deputy director Child and women welfare department, revenue officials and police visited Sreesha Bhat’s house and convinced the parents. The Officials explained the legal impediments involved in getting an under-aged girl married to a youth.

Being convinced by the explanation, the girl’s parents promised the officials that they would ensure her unhindered studies and get her married only after completing of 18 years.
