Pakistan observes Nazia Hassan’s death anniversary

Karachi, Aug 13 (IANS) Pakistan on Saturday observed the 16th death anniversary of Nazia Hassan, the ‘Queen of Pop’ whose single “Aap Jaisa Koi” for Bollywood movie “Qurbaani” catapulted her to fame.

Nazia ruled the music field in Pakistan during the 1980s.

The first face of pop in Pakistan, Nazia was born in Karachi on April 3, 1965, The News International reported.

She first appeared in a children’s programme on PTV “Kaliyon ki Mala” in 1975 where she sang the famous “Dosti Aisa Naata”.

When she rendered “Aap Jaisa Koi”, the Pakistani was just 15 years old.

After that, Nazia, along with her brother Zohaib, released the evergreen album “Disco Deewana” (1981). This was followed by “Boom Boom”, “Young Tarang “(1984), “Hotline” (1987) and finally “Camera, Camera” (1992).

She was the youngest and first Pakistani to win a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer — at age 15.

The daily said Nazia was also a humanitarian. She worked as a political analyst for the UN in New York and became a cultural ambassador for Pakistan in 1991.

Nazia died due to lung cancer at the age of 35 in London on August 13, 2000.

  1. This pariah and terrorist country of Pakistan always confounds me. How come they have decided to commemorate the death anniversary of Nadia Hassan, who catapulted to fame by being associated with Bollywood, rather than Lollypop, sorry Lollywood or the so called Pakistani film industry?

They should have birthday bashes for Nawaz Sharif, his beloved brother Shahbaz and all other terrorists, who have made Pakistan (the Land of the Pure) their lair or den or home.

    • Mr. Nelson, to confound you further – do you REALLY think that the US had no clue about OB hiding in Abbottabad for so many years? And THAT too in a place which they fed and maintained – despite knowing v well that they were and are a nest of Vipers?

Oh yeah… War against Terror…strategic access to Afghanistan via Pak to nail Ossu Binnu…. supply routes… bases… Yawwwwwwwwnn…

Who gained? Well, you tell me. Who gained in Iraq? Tell me. Say, have you heard of the saying – “One must first DESTROY before you CREATE”.

  2. When Americans asked Pakistanis, they would lie to the former by saying that Osama bin Laden is somewhere in the Afghan mountains or probably dead.

Osama bin Laden did not intentionally use computers, send and receive emails and mobiles to cover his tracks, but at long last Americans detected one of his couriers, who was tailed to the mansion in Abbotabad and American-hired Pakistani photographers occupied a rented place nearby and kept an eye on Osama’s house and photographed every person coming at or leaving the doors, windows and also visitors. A Pakistani doctor was sent to that mansion to vaccinate all the residents in that house.

Once they were sure, they launched the helicopter raid and did not share the plans with Pakistan. Such is the credibility that the world has about Pakistan.

  3. …and did not share the plans with Pak. – Mr. Nelson

Err, do you REALLY believe that cockamamie story, Mr. Nelson?

Seymour Hersh, a veteran US investigative journalist (the same chap who embarrassed the US with stories about US atrocities in Vietnam & Abu Gharib, besides many others) raised SERIOUS claims. Top among them are:

    1. The ISI were holding OB prisoner for about 6 years.
    2. The ISI literally handed OB over to the US in a staged raid.
    3. The US account of OB’s assassination is a “fairytale”.

    Go on.. take a read:

That movie – Zero Dark Thirty, was well,…. is pure Hollywood at its conjuring BEST, I guess. Jessica Chastain as Maya …. a YOUNG CIA operative who ‘uncovers’ OB… ahem….cough cough.. sneeze… atchoo!

    “Maya” indeed, O’Sarvajna! 😉
Disclaimer: I have no pity for OB or his group, the ISIS or any other crappy outfits (irrespective of religion, race, class…..whatever….who go against humankind/humanity, peace, compassion… etc). They ALL deserve what has befallen and/or what is going to befall them. Richly so! Amen!
