Palm Sunday was celebrated at St Joseph Vaz Church-Mudipu

Mangaluru: Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The feast commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in each of the four canonical Gospels. In most liturgical churches Palm Sunday is celebrated by the blessing and distribution of palm branches or the branches of other native trees representing the palm branches the crowd scattered in front of Christ as he rode into Jerusalem.

Palm Sunday was celebrated at St Joseph Vaz Church on April 14th, 2019. The ceremony began with the blessing of the palms near the grotto at 7.30 am followed by procession to the Church commemorating Jesus Christ’s solemn entry to Jerusalem. Fr. Benjamin Pinto blessed the palms and Rev. Fr Shaun Rodrigues, Assistant Parish Priest presided over the Eucharist and highlighted the importance of this day in his homily.

Rev. Fr Benjamin Pinto and Fr Felix Noronha were concelebrants. With Palm Sunday, we enter into the Holy week wherein we meditate Our Lord’s passion, death and resurrection.
