Los Angeles, July 22 (IANS) Filmmaker Chris Columbus, who is ready with his forthcoming directorial “Pixels”, feels the sci-fi comedy is a “mixmatch of all the things” he has done in the past.

‘Pixels’ enabled me to me to mix comedy with a sense of action-adventure, it enabled me to push the comedy as far as I could but also create this very intense, very edgy action adventure film. It’s a ‘mixmatch’ of all the things I have done in the past. It was an opportunity to create something fresh from the tools that I have gathered over the years,” Columbus said in a statement.

The director revealed he wanted to be a part of the film because he loved its script as it felt “original” and unique.

“I felt that I was reading a lot of big action adventure movies because of my relationship with ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Night at the Museum’. People were expecting me to do another one of those types of films and I was getting a lot of those scripts but it just did not feel original. Reading the ‘Pixels script felt so original, so unique. I had to do it; I felt I just had to do it.

“I really fell in love with the characters as well. I liked the blend of comedy, it gave me an opportunity which I had not been able to in the other movies,” he added.

In the film, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie Plant (Peter Dinklage) — children growing up in the 1980s — saved the world thousands of times, that too at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. But now, they have to do it for real.

“Pixels” will release in India on July 31 in 3D.
