Police deployed at Mumbai office of Islamic preacher

Mumbai (PTI): Police have been deployed outside the city office of a foundation run by controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, whose ‘hate speech’ is reported to have inspired one of the five Bangladeshi militants involved in the recent Dhaka carnage.

A senior Mumbai Police official said security personnel have been deployed outside Naik’s ‘Islamic Research Foundation’ office at Dongri area in South Mumbai, as a precautionary measure in the wake of the recent developments.

“We have neither received any threat perception nor particular instructions from the state or Central government. We have deployed our forces only as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident,” the official told PTI.

He, however, parried question on whether Mumbai Police has received any particular information or instruction to share some inputs on Naik.

“There is nothing as such. This is something which is being handled at the state and Central government level. But as a law enforcing agency, we are keeping a close eye on the situation,” the official said.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju had yesterday told reporters in Delhi that, “Zakir Naik’s speech is a matter of concern for us. Our agencies are working on this. But as a minister, I will not comment what action will be taken.”

Bangladeshi newspaper ‘Daily Star’ had reported that militant Rohan Imtiaz, son of an Awami League leader, ran a propaganda on Facebook last year quoting Naik.

Naik, in his lecture aired on Peace TV, an international Islamic channel, had reportedly “urged all Muslims to be terrorists”.

The controversial Islamic orator and founder of Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation is banned in the UK and Canada for his ‘hate speech’ aimed at other religions. He is among 16 banned Islamic scholars in Malaysia.

He is known in Bangladesh through his Peace TV, although his preachings often demean other religions and even other Muslim sects, the report said.

Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant yesterday said he had written to the Union Home Minister, demanding a ban on Naik and Islamic Research Foundation, in the country’s interest.

Last week, Islamist gunmen stormed a popular restaurant in Dhaka’s diplomatic enclave and killed 22 people, most of them foreigners from Italy, Japan, India and the US in an attack claimed by the Islamic State.

  1. Watch an Indian journalist delivering kapaala moksha to Congress politicians and other apologists who are responsible for supporting enemies…!! I’m still waiting for a single stenographer who has the intellectual honesty to stand up and question the ban on certain cartoons!!!! I have been waiting for a few years now!!!

  2. The ex-Supreme Court Judge Katju has rightly said, and I have heard him mentioning, once more, just yesterday (after Dr. Zakir Naik’s inflammatory speeches influenced youth in Bangladesh, some of whom are involved in two acts of terrorism in the last seven to eight days) that 90% of the Indians are fools.

If Indians had some grey matter in their brains, they would have pondered why Dr. Zakir Naik has been banned entry into U.S.A., U.K. Canada, Indonesia and Malaysia and why a qualified doctor (and not jad bhutti one), become a rabid evangelical preacher spewing venom, poison and hate against other religions? Now, Dr. Zakir Naik can add two more countries to that list, namely India and Bangladesh. Since he is a scoundrel, he should be arrested, put in the slammer and made to sing like a canary to reveal to authorities his contacts, benefactors, sources of funds, investments (including those held in Swiss banks and other tax havens). Personalities like Digvijay Singh, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (and God knows, who else), had met and kissed his greasy beard. Dr. Zakir Naik has exploited people’s ignorance to the hilt to become a millionaire and though he is a M.B.B.S. Doctor (or medical practioner), he may have fared badly in that and taken to preaching. Politics and religions are the last refuge for scoundrels.

Dr. Zakir Naik has been fooling the Indian muslims and those in other parts of the Islamic world, most of whom who listen to his sermons are not necessarily professionals and those from the upper strata of society, but semi and illiterates, who cannot think for themselves are incapable of fertile reasoning. In short, they lack common sense.

    • Mr. Nelson, this latest bout of sniper attacks in Dallas – don’t you think it is high time that the cops have to be sensitized? I mean, just imagine – if they can be SO brutal with fellow-citizens, JUST imagine the US armed forces brutality and barbarism in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya etc.

Also, don’t you think that some stricter gun-controls would go a long way in averting such sniper and/or otherwise gun attacks? I wonder why those Kentucky Fried Chickens have’t woken up from their wild-west hangover? Is it as the saying goes – “avoid hangover, STAY drunk!”?

  3. “He should be arrested, put in the slammer and made to sing like a canary…” – Mr. Nelson

Well, it is the Beef Jokers Party who is in power in our RampaNNA’s ‘Akhanda Bharatha’. And they are supposed to be the ‘Party with a DIFFERENCE’! So, what are they waiting for? Waiting for Ashtami 2016 or Xmas 2018?

  4. Watch this ‘moderate’ guy refusing to share stage with Taslima Nasreen!! This is the end result of a society that doesn’t utter a single word critical of religious bigots from minority communities in the name of ‘secularism’!!! Great going, Indian media and politicians!!

  5. Deploying police to provide security is the right thing to do. Can you imagine the fake outrage by minorities and congress leaders if some Dhoomanna were to throw a stone/egg at this office?

    • Deploying police to provide security is the right thing to do.” “…..IF someDhomamanna were to throw a stone/egg … – Yumreeki Rampe

“IF”, eh? Well, would a bonda/bandas/’bondulo’/sorpotel be OK? Darn thing hasn’t happened and this joker starts assuming stuff and nonsense.

Say, after yesterdays sniper attacks on cops, will they (cops) be provided “security” – say by the navy seals?

WHY is this joker living in “If’s” and “But’s”?

  6. Why is Joker Pinto bringing up UK politics, KFC, Libya and police brutality when we are talking about Dr.Phakir Nalayak? Does he know how to stay on topic ? What kind of condition is he suffering from?

  7. I don’t think this guy should be banned. Zakir Naik is in news because he spoke in English. What about tens of thousands of other preachers who use urdu and other languages to express the same hatred and bigotry? Let me go a step further – what about the ‘source’ that is pumping so much hatred and intolerance all over the world. Why is it that stenographers in India are bullied into silence? Why is it that the same stenographers who question ‘made snaana’ are not asking the following questions:
    – What’s wrong in uniform civil code?
    – Why can’t we publish cartoons of all religious figures?
    – Why can’t people like Taslima Nasreen live in India without any fear of being attacked?

My earlier attempt to provide a link to Rajadeepa Saradesai- Taslima Nasreen video didn’t work. Here it is again. Enjoy!!!

  8. Original R. Pai,

Though U.S. is more diverse, India too is diverse too and a secular country. Evangelical preachers and rabble rousers, irrespective of which religion they represent, should not be permitted on any account to influence the masses with their vicious and poisonour sermons. This should be amply made clear to people of all faiths, be it mullahs, pandits, evangelical preachers from christian religion (especially found in Kerala) and also other faiths.

Dr. Zakir Naik has taken full advantage of the uneducated or semi-educated masses, especially Muslims, and has been filling them with utter trash and spewing poison and venom and, in turn, has become a millionaire when as a doctor he may have been an utter failure in Bombay.

I have listened to his utterances on the Youtube and they should not be allowed in India, a secular country which can ignite the masses. Imagine the ramifications and repercussions on law-and-order due to irresponsible statements uttered by this fanatical element? Thanks to his luck, nothing happened in India so far, largely because majority of Indians are peace loving, do not want to get into any hassles and many of them are very much involved in earning their daily bread.

Now that, in the last ten days or so, there have been two incidents in Bangladesh and their security forces have killed some of the terrorists and captured a few, Dr. Zakir Naik’s deep involvement is being unravelled in India and intelligence will have to be shared with Bangladesh.

However, Dr. Zakir Naik, wherever he travels, ultimately is like a cock that comes to roost at home and, therefore, at this point-in-time, he is in Saudi Arabia and like Vijay Mallya and Lalit Modi, Nadeem Saif, he would prefer to remain there, because he will get a very hot reception in India from the concerned quarters should he decide to return.

Since 10 years, I have been saying that Dr. Zakir Naik, who is always suited-and-hooted but wearing a skull cap and sporting an unkempt beard, is a fraud and his wings need to be clipped once and for all. However, better late than never. He could go and preach in Somalia, Mali, Mauritania, Chad, Somalia (sorry, not Somalia, probably there are more camels than people in that desolate land).
