Pope urges sustainable, inclusive tourism

Vatican City, Sep 27 (IANS/AKI) Pope Francis on Tuesday appealed for a sustainable, non-discriminatory tourist industry in a tweet to his 30 million followers.

“Let us promote a sustainable tourism, which stimulates development and encounter with local peoples and avoids every sort of discrimination,” he wrote on his nine-language @pontifex account.

The papal tweet coincides with the United Nations annual World Tourism Day, hosted this year by the Thai capital Bangkok under the theme ‘Tourism for All – Promoting Universal Accessibility’.
