‘The Post’ team thrilled over six Golden Globe nominations

Los Angeles, Dec 12 (IANS) Actors Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks and filmmaker Steven Spielberg are thrilled about their film “The Post” receiving six Golden Globe nominations.

On Monday, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association nominated Streep for the 31st time — the most by any single actor in the 75-year history of the Golden Globes, reports ew.com.

“I’m thrilled for the movie, for Steven (Spielberg) and Tom (Hanks), and for the incredible ensemble of actors who made this movie need its moment in history. Thanks, HFPA,” Streep said in a statement to latimes.com.

Her co-star Tom Hanks has been nominated for the Best Actor award.

“Very happy the work of the others on ‘The Post’ has been given the attention they deserve. Thank you to the HFPA,” said Hanks.

Presented by Indian media and entertainment conglomerate Reliance Entertainment, “The Post” is directed by Spielberg, who has also been nominated for a Golden Globe.

“I am thrilled by today’s recognition by the HFPA and particularly happy for our nominees who made this movie happen – Meryl and Tom, Liz Hannah and Josh Singer, Amy Pascal and Kristie Macosko Krieger, and of course, John Williams.

“I only wish (former Washington Post publisher) Kay Graham were still here to experience how much her story affects all of us,” said Spielberg.

“The Post” is a drama about the unlikely partnership of Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of The Washington Post, and its driven editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four US Presidents.

The film is set to release in India on January 12.
