Prefer to resign over non-release of funds: Jharkhand speaker

Ranchi, Dec 11 (IANS) Jharkhand assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon on Friday said he would prefer to resign from the post if the dignity of the house and its members was not maintained.

“If the dignity of the assembly is not maintained, I will prefer to resign. It is very sad that local area development funds of legislators are not released,” the speaker said while speaking at a function here.

“One can understand the situation a legislator finds himself in. The funds are not released due to executive’s excuses. When a legislator cannot get work done from funds allotted to him/her, imagine what will happen to others works,” Oraon said.

He said he would hold a meeting on December 14 with officials concerned to see that the local area development funds were released without hitch.

Every year, a legislator is sanctioned Rs.3 crore for developmental works in his/her constituency. These funds have not been released this year due to technical reasons.
