Pregnancy fair aims to create awareness on miscarriages

Mumbai, Jan 11 (IANS) Many pregnant women took part in a two-day pregnancy fair held here with an aim to create awareness on miscarriages and various types of diseases women usually suffer during pregnancy.

The event was organised with the aim to inform people about the rising number of miscarriages among Indian women following their poor health condition due to lack of proper nutrition.

During the event that ended on Monday, workshops were conducted on prime issues that cause miscarriages, including improper nutrition, stress and continuity in smoking and drinking.

According to the organisers Cloudnine Hospitals, over 500 women participated in the event.

The women were told about precautions to be taken after delivering naturally or through Caesarean section. There is a lack of awareness about these precautions among young women in India, organisers said.

A recent study said the percentage of miscarriages among Indian women increased from 15 percent to 20 percent in the last one year.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) has said 50 percent of India’s pregnant women were anaemic, enhancing the risk of maternal mortality during pregnancy.
