President greets Tajikistan on Independence Day

New Delhi, Sep 8 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday greeted the Republic of Tajikistan on the occasion of its 24th Independence Day.

 


“It gives me great pleasure to convey warm greetings and felicitations to Your Excellency and to the friendly people of Tajikistan on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of your Independence Day,” Mukherjee said in a message to the president of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.

“The recent state visit of Prime Minister of India to Tajikistan in July 2015 is a manifestation of India’s desire to further deepen our strategic partnership with Tajikistan. Early implementation of decisions taken during the visit will add new dynamism to our relationship and open up new avenues of cooperation for the common benefit of our people,” President Mukherjee added.

Tajikistan got its independence from the Soviet Union on September 9, 1991.
