Puttur: District superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa A D had ordered a probe into a recent case, wherein two college students were arrested and interrogated for allegedly circulating pro-Pakistan slogans on WhatsApp.

The probe has revealed that the students of a college had formed a WhatsApp group in the name of ‘Student of the Year’. There was a discussion on the Indo-Pak cricket match.

There was also a reference to ‘Jai Pakistan, Pakistan Zindabad’. One of the students in the group took a screen-shot of it and forwarded it to other groups.

Dinesh Jain, from another group, complained to the town police, who tracked down Safwan and Abdul Jaleel, interrogated them and later released them.

Dr Sharanappa has clarified that from the chat discussion among the students over the cricket match, some selected clippings were circulated by other groups with malicious intent. Thus a wrong impression that pro-Pakistan slogans had been raised was created, the SP has said.

Nevertheless, the students were warned not to repeat such acts as would create rift in the society in future and an undertaking to that effect was obtained in writing from them.
