Puttur: Actor Vinod Alva Released from Mangaluru a Day after Court Order

Puttur: Film actor Vinod Alva, who was granted conditional bail by the district’s fifth additional sessions court based here on Tuesday, had to wait for a day to come out of the district jail on account for a technical reason.

As the related papers were not received in time, he could be let out on bail from the Mangaluru district jail on the same day. Finally, the moment arrived when the formalities were completed.

As he walked out, his sister and other close relatives who were eagerly waiting welcomed him. Speaking to those who were around, he said that the charges against him were baseless. He would not like to speak further in the matter since it was in the court.

However, he added that he would call for a media meet within a few days and provide all details about those levelled charges against him with documentary proof.

Sachidananda, a former aide of his, had alleged in a complaint that an attempt was made on his life by Alva’s driver Uday Chikkittaya by knocking him down with a jeep. Alva was arrested on Nov 16 while the jeep was found abandoned in Devaragunda in Sullia taluk a few days later.

Chikkittaya is still absconding. There are suspicions that he may have been hiding in the neighbouring Kerala state, since the spot is located close to the state boundary.
