Puttur: Case against Activists for Hoisting ‘Tulu State’ Flag on Nov 1 Dismissed

Puttur: In protest against the implementation of the Yettinahole project and neglect of the interests of Dakshina Kannada district, a group of activists have been demanding the formation of a separate Tulunadu state.

As a token of their demand, they, under the leadership of Deekayya G, had hoisted a ‘Tulunadu’ state flag in Pulittadi near Uppinangady on Nov 1 last year, while the rest of the state observed the Kannada Rajyotsava and hoisted the Kannada flag.

This caused tense moments around and the police took steps to remove the flag. They filed cases against eight persons for breach of public peace, as ordered by the taluk magistrate, invoking section 107 of the Cr P C.

This step was questioned by activists Dr Niranjan Rai, Kailar Rajagopal Bhat, Prashant D’Costa and U G Radha in the sessions court, which has ruled that the case be dismissed. It has said that the police had failed to establish the veracity of the incident.
