Puttur: Court Orders Inquiry into College Girl’s Suspicious Death on Railway Track

Puttur: Varsha Alva (19), daughter of Dayananda Alva and a college student from Konchadi in Mangaluru, had died in suspicious circumstances on the railway track in Nehru Nagar here on Sep 28, 2014.

The Mangaluru railway police had registered a case and have been investigating the case. Unhappy with the progress of the investigation, Alva had filed a privae complaint in this regard.

Based on his plaint, principal magistrate C K Basavaraj has directed that criminal proceedings be initiated against Rachana, an Enginnering student and Sukesh Raj, a B Com student,

Alva had stated that his daughter and Rachana were college-mates at the local Engineering college and lived together in hostel. They apparently had a rivalry, which matter Varsha had told the parents. On the pretext of celebrating birthday party, Varsha was taken by Rachana and other girls towards the railway tracks.

While clicking a photograph, Varsha was reportedly pushed by Rachana on the track. After she died, her body was taken away to a distance and dumped with the help of Sukesh Raj, it was alleged. A pair of diamond pendants she had on were also taken away, said the complaint.
