Puttur: Dance of Death Continues on Shiradi Route – Biker Killed in Collision with Tanker

Puttur: There has been a spate of mishaps after the Shiradi route was opened for traffic without ensuring installation of proper safeguards.

Also down the ghats, around Uppinangady, mishaps are regularly taking place. The zigzag turns at Perne have remained death-traps for several years.

Riders and drivers from other districts and states who are not familiar with the treacherous terrain of the ghat roads here fail to realize the hazards of speeding at these points.

In yet another tragic incident, Ajay (45), hailing from Tumkur, was fatally injured when the motorbike he drove collided with a fuel tanker at Maira in Perne on NH 75 on Sunday.

He was on his way to Mangaluru, while the tanker was plying from Mangaluru to Hassan. Ajay was thrown to the road and lay bleeding for some time. He was taken to a hospital but he is said to have died on the way.

A case has been registered by the Puttur traffic police.
