Puttur: Dr Peter Wilson Prabhakar, hitherto head of the department of History at Vivekananda College here, took over as the principal of the college on Tuesday, July 2 evening.
Son of D S Kotian and Lady Lily of Konaje near Mangaluru, the 1961-born Dr Prabhakar had his early education in UBMS primary school in Konaje.
After obtaining his BA degree from the University College (formerly Government College), Mangaluru, he pursued MA studies in History in the very first batch at Mangaluru University.
He submitted his thesis ‘Basel Mission in South Kanara’ under the guidance of Dr Surendra Rao in 1988 and secured a PhD from Mangaluru University. Ever since he has made writing an important part of his career.
Dr Prabhakar has 17 books to his credit, which include Vitlada Kraanti, Putturu Taluku Itihaasa Darpana, Kandaaya ShabdagaLa Kosha, Mangaluru Hanchu and others.
The most noted of his works is ‘Wars, Proxy Wars and Terrorish – Post-Independence’ has won worldwide recognition and it has been accepted a reference manual in over fifty countries.
Besides, it has been accepted as a reference manual in online libraries in over 150 countries.
In the past, he had guided research students of Tirupati Venkateshwara University and is currently guiding students of Hampi University students. He has also been guiding students of PhD and MPhil in Mangaluru.
