Puttur: Kadaba Police Raid Shops in School Vicinity in Alankaru, Seize Tobacco Producs

Puttur: The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), which is aimed at controlling the use and consumption of tobacco products, is being implemented with full force in the district.

Puttur has already been ordered to be a smoking-free town. The same is gradually introduced in the interior areas. Accordingly, the Kadaba police conducted a surprise raid on many shops in the school and college surroundings.

Many of them were found having stacked a huge stock of cigarettes, bidis and other tobacco products. They were seized by the police. They levied fines and also gave strict instructions to have signs saying that no tobacco and other harmful products were sold in their respective outlets.

They also warned that any failure to do so would result in the cancellation of their trade licences. Shops outside the school peripheries were ordered to put up signs saying the tobacco products would not be sold to underage individuals.
