Puttur: Kemmayi Resident Ends Life by Jumping off Bridge at Uppinangady

Puttur: Babu Gowda (64), a resident of Kemmayi near here, jumped off the old bridge near Shri Sahasralingeshwara-Mahakali temple on Thursday.

A passerby noticed him getting ready to jump and screamed at him to stop him, but it did not help. He alerted others also, besides informing the 108 ambulance.

A local swimming expert, Radhakrishna, jumped into water and pulled Gowda out. He was treated in the ambulance which had arrived. But he was found to have breathed his last.

Enquiries revealed that he had left his Kemmayi home around 7-30 am. Arriving in Uppinangady, he enquired at a automobile workshop for thr location of the bridge.

Soon thereafter, he went to the bridge and jumped off. While doing so, he had tied a polythene bag to his hand. It contained Rs 500.

He is said to have been mentally disturbed and had received treatment for it some time ago. It is suspected that he was dejected over it
