Puttur: Dinesh Kumar Jain, a citizen from here, has served a legal notice on the state Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Bengaluru taking objection to the organization’s official award being given this year to Prof K S Bhagwan.
A few statements and utterances of the learned author on scriptures and deities have recently raised much heat and dust. The legal notice has been addressed to Parishat president Pundalika Halambi and its secretary. It has been issued through a local advocate, Mahesh Kaje.
Jain has argued that the award should not be given to Prof Bhagwan. He has cautioned that legal action would be taken against the two office-bearers and also all those involved in the presentation process.
The notice recalls that Gyan Pith awardee and the late Kannada author KuVemPu had won the award for his Ramayana Darshanam. It was a paradox that a person who had insulted Ramayan and Gita was being chosen for the Parishat’s award.
Prof Bhagwan had, during the past two years, issued several baseless statements and hurt the feelings of a majority of Kannadigas. Hence, the plan to present the award to him should be dropped, the notice has urged.
