Puttur: It is common to observe that most of new government edifices, even long after completion of constructio, have to wait for the right person’s convenience to be declared open. Sometimes, the protocol requirement may cause the delay.
The new state-of-the-art KSRTC bus-stand was to be inaugurated quite some time back. But the legislative council elections came in the way, since the model code of conduct would not allow any such programmes.
The zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections are due soon and another round of code of conduct is likely to come into force anytime from now. Hence the interim period is being used to get the new terminus declared open.
MLA Shakuntala Shetty, while speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, confirmed that the terminus would be thrown open to public use on January 9. State transport minister will declare it open at 11 am that day, she said.
She also added that the reports about confusion prevailing over the blueprint of the plan were wrong. No final decision had been taken about vacating the old holy fig tree or the Gandhikatte from the front side of the bus stand. The decision of the general public would be final and binding, she assured.
