Puttur: LPG-laden Tanker Rolls over on NH 75 – Safety Steps Avert Disaster

Puttur: Incidents on the Shiradi ghat road bring to mind the gas tanker tragedy at Perne near Uppinangady just two and a half years ago.

An LPG-laden tanker skidded and rolled over at Bedrodi in Bajattur village on NH 75 in the early hours of Wednesday and caused a traffic block. Driver Tarun Prakash (24) and cleaner Vadivelu (48) were severely injured. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru.

The wheels of the tanker came off. The police and fire service rushed to the spot and took precautionary measures. The households within a certain radius from the spot were strictly ordered not to strike any fire or spark.

The road was shut down all day through. Vehicles from Mangaluru were diverted towards Puttur and those heading towards Nellyadi and Shiradi were diverted through Kanchana and Periadka routes.

Since there was no gas leakage, the fuel compartment was to be separated from the vehicle and linked to another vehicle, said the Puttur traffic police. Personnel from MRPL also arrived and gave guidance for the clearance operation.

The traffic police and the fire brigade camped at the spot and kept a strict vigil.
