Puttur: Man Trying to Ditch Woman in Love Forced to Tie the Knot with Police Help

Puttur: Vinuta (name changed to protect identity) of Periadka near Uppinangady and Padmanabha, a close relative of hers from Karasagod, were in love for some time.

The man is said to have gone physical with her with a promise of getting married. When she conceived, she backed out and remained elusive.

Her family members approached the women’s counselling cell in Puttur and sought their help. Zohara Nisar, the head of the cell and member Anita Harish, joined by social worker Mahalinga, tracked down Padmanabha and brought him to Uppinangady.

He was taken to the police station and persuaded to accept Vinuta as his legally wedded wife. Finally he agreed to do so.

They were taken to the office of the sub-registrar in Puttur and got their marriage registered.

The initiative taken by the counselling cell and their associates was widely appreciated by everyone.
