Puttur: Mysterious Death of 6 Goats near Uppinangady – Leopard Attack Suspected

Puttur: Six of the 26 goats owned and reared by a woman as her sole source of income were found dead in mysterious circumstances at Doojamoole on Saturday morning.

While all the other goats had returned home after grazing, the six had not. When Kurumbi, wife of the late Haroon Rasheed, went in search of them, she found them dead near the bushes. There were deep injuries in the throats and abdomen, clearly indicative of bite marks.

It was confirmed that they were attacked by wild animals, either wild dogs or wolves. Forest officials who arrived to study the situation found paw marks on the ground. Hence it is suspected to be a case of leopard attack.

When Uppinangady gram panchayat president Abdul Rahiman visited the spot, he found the owner sitting near the carcasses in a deep state of grief. He gave a personal contribution as relief to her, besides assuring her of a suitable compensation from the government.
