Puttur: Parishioner Alleges Mismanagement of Govt Grant to Church – Official Inspects

Puttur: Calistus Menezes, a parishioner of a church in Uppinangady, had complained to the state’s Lokayukta alleging that funds received for the improvements of the church from the department of minority welfare had been diverted to purposes other than the intended ones.

Under the Lokayukta’s directives, Usman K, the district minority welfare officer, paid an inspection visit to the church on Monday and sought details of the utilization of the Rs 10-lakh grant.

Menezes had alleged that the work shown as executed from the grant was actually funded by the parishioners and that the grant was diverted to the repair works to the priest’s residence.

The priest gave his side of the story to the official. Usman told the mediapersons that he would submit his report along with the statements from the complainant and the parish priest to the Lokayukta.
