Puttur: Single-handed Theft of Cash, Valuables Worth Rs 6.59 Lakh at Uppinangady Temple

Puttur: Theft of valuable silverware and cash came to light when the archaks came to open the doors of Shri Lakshmi Venkatarmana temple at Uppinangady on Friday morning. It had taken place a few hours earlier.

The value of the stolen silverware is Rs 5.59 lakh. A cash amount of estimated Rs 1 lakh is also taken away. CCTV clippings showed it as an act executed by a sole person. One of the cameras has been burnt by him by coming from the opposite direction. This suggests that he was well aware of the working of the system.

Other cameras show that the miscreant visited the premises twice. First he broke into premises around 2-30 am on Friday and took the silver items. He returned after some time and broke open the collection box. Finally he left the place around 4-30 am.

DySP Bhaskar Rai and other policemen, besides fingerprint experts, visited the spot and held investigations.
