Puttur: Theft of Rs 2-lakh-plus Gold, Cash – Two Housemaids and Friends Held

Puttur: Two household helps who worked in the house of an entrepreneur in Koornadka here were arrested along with their two acquaintances in connection with the theft of gold worth Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5,000 in cash.

Anusha (19), daughter of Narase Gowda of Bettappanahalli of Sira taluk in Tumkur district and Sumitra (40) from Narve in Belur taluk of Hassan district, Lokesh aka Girish and Gopinath aka Gopi from Sakleshpur have been arrested in this connection and produced in court here.

The theft had taken place from the house of A B Viegas on July 27. A complaint had been filed at the town police station. The two household workers were employed for about two months. They, taking the help of their friends, stole two chains, two bangles, a ring and Rs 5,000.

The two women sold a part of the loot to a jewellery shop in Puttur and bought a new piece. They borrowed Rs 70,000 from Muthoot Finance in Narve by pledging the rest of the jewels.

The police from Puttur have seized all the stolen goods and cash from them, who were arrested from a house in Narve in Uddamanahalli. DK’s superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa S D has announced a cash reward to the police team for efficiently and quickly cracking the case.
