Puttur: Traffic on Shiradi Ghat Road Blocked for 2 Hours after Collision of Heavy Vehicles

Puttur: A sand-laden lorry and an unladen gas tanker collided on NH 71 at Perne near Uppinangady on Thursday.

The front side of both the vehicles were damaged. Traffic on the Shiradi ghat was blocked for about two hours. Since the gas tanker was empty, there was no hazard, except that the drivers and cleaners of both vehicles sustained escaped with moderate injuries.

The mishap took place near the same spot where a gas tanker had rolled over two and a half years ago and some lives had been lost in the fire that spread over a large area. A few of the injured have suffered scars or disability for life.

Humps have been installed on the highway but no markings have been made. Drivers approaching from either direction fail to spot the hump or reduce the speed. Hence the effect of the humps is just the opposite, say motorists and residents.
