Puttur: Wrong Route Claims Lives of Subrahmanya-bound Bengaluru Pilgrims

Puttur: Four residents of Devanahalli near Bengaluru had arrived in Dharmasthala on Wednesday, Nov 25 morning.

Shrikantha Murty, a retired teacher, Mohan Babu and Lata were in the car, while Ravi Kumar was at the wheel.

After visiting Dharmasthala, followed by a darshan of the deity at Sautadka Kokkada temple, they intended visiting Subrahmanya. Instead of turning at Gundya on the way, they travelled further up to Uppinangady.

Having realized their error after making enquiries, they decided to go to Subrahmanya via Kadaba-Koila state highway since it was a short cut. This road is known for steep turns and ups and downs.

Apparently, lack of sleep may have resulted in the driver losing control over the vehicle at the Kuntur bridge. It collided with a lorry. As a result of the mishap, Murty died on the spot. Ravi Kumar died on the way while being shifted to hospital.

Mohan Babu and Lata too were injured and have been admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. Their condition is said to be critical.

Those persons in the lorry also are said to have been injured. The Uppinangady police are pursuing the case.
