Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday amid pandemonium by some members soon after it passed a bill in the post lunch sitting.

The upper House passed the National Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities (Amendment) Bill, 2018, after a very brief discussion amid the din.

As the House met for the day, the Rajya Sabha made an obituary reference to late US President George H.W. Bush and also commended its member, Mc Mary Kom, for her achievements in the boxing arena.

Soon after, the MPs who had given notices under the adjournment motion demanded that their issues be taken up.

Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu told them that he had rejected the notices as adjournment motions but was ready to take up the issues under other rules.

Meanwhile, a few MPs trooped to the Chair’s podium and started raising slogans. The Chair then adjourned the House till 12 noon.

Again, as soon as the House was reconvened, a few MPs came near the podium, raising slogans and holding placards, leading to the Chair adjourning the House for the second time till 2 p.m.
