Ramadan to begin in Coastal Districts on June 6

Mangaluru/Udupi/Bhatkal: The first day of fasting for Ramdan will begin on Monday, June 6 in the coastal districts with the sighting of the new moon at Kapad, Kerala.

This was announced by the Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Mosque and Edga Mosque treasurer S M Rasheed on Sunday, June 5. After the moon was sighted in Kapad, Moulana Thwaqa Ahammed Musliyar declared that Ramadan fasting would begin on Monday.

During this period, Muslims observe fasting during the day. It is believed to be the month when the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to Prophet Muhammad. Muslims fast every day for the entire month, abstaining from food and water from dawn to dusk, besides devoting more time to prayer and more resources to charity.
