1. Split Moong dal(Green Gram ) - 200 gms 2. Water - 600 ml 3. Ginger - 1 inch pice, finely chopped. 4. Green Chillies - 1-2, chopped. 5. Compounded Asafotoeda(Hing) - A pinch, dissolved in 1tbsp water. 6. Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp 6. Curry Leaves - A sprig 7. Dessicated or fresh Coconut - 1 cup, grated. 8. Refined Vegetable oil - 2 tbsp. 9. Sugar - 1 tbsp. 10. Salt - To taste.
Method
1. Wash the dal and soak in enough water for 15 mins. Drain and keep aside. 2. Boil 600 ml water in a vessel. Add the soaked and drained dal, cook for 10-15 mins or till just tender.Drain and keep aside. 3. Heat oil in a kadai or wok. Prepare the seasoning with mustard seeds till they crackle, curry leaves till they turn dark, and finally green chillies till they change to white. 4. Stir in the boiled dal, salt to taste, chopped ginger,and sugar. Mix well. 5. Add the asafotoeda(Hing) solution and grated coconut. Mix and serve.
Makes a healthy breakfast or tea-time snack for 6 people.
