Release Hardik or face ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation: Patel Nav Nirman Sena

New Delhi, Sep 19 (IANS) Hours after Patidar community leader Hardik Patel was detained in Gujarat on Saturday, his Patel Nav Nirman Sena demanded his release by the evening or warned of a nationwide “jail bharo” agitation.

“If Hardik Patel is not released by government (Gujarat) by today (Saturday) evening then we will start massive jail bharo andolan across the country. Narendra Modi government and the state government will be responsible for it,” Patel Nav Nirman Sena’s national secretary Akhilesh Katiyar told IANS here.

“The state government along with the central government is creating an emergency like situation in the country. They have blocked all the mode of communication, including internet, and are even tapping the phone calls of our leaders,” he said, adding, “It is totally illegal and against the Indian constitution.”

He said,”The government’s dictatorship will lead the country in a worst situation. We are doing peaceful march, rally and protest but government is not giving permission at all. It feels like we are living in Syria not in India.”

He requested Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel to “release Hardik Patel immediately and give us permission for the peaceful march and accept our reservation demand.”

“And if our demands are not fulfilled 27 crore people will protest across the nation,” he warned the chief minister.

Patidar leader Hardik Patel was detained by Gujarat Police along with 50 supporters when they attempted to launch an ‘Ekta Rally’ in Surat on Saturday morning.

The rally, which the police said was ‘unauthorised’, was intended to press for caste-based reservations for the Patel community. The agitation is being spearheaded by the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS).

  1. Dear readers,

The numerically strong farming community of Gujarat — the Patels — have been backing the BJP for the past many years in the state. An RSS ideologue confirmed that the BJP-RSS cadre were “at work” in Gujarat’s Patel-dominated areas to ensure that Hardik’s agitation did not get fanned further.BJP sources indicate leaders — of both political party as well as its ideological fountainhead RSS — are touching base with senior leaders and opinion-makers from the Patel community to “to drum sense about the danger and futility of Hardik Patel-type dangerous exercises”.

Gujarat may slowly be returning back to normalcy after braving the Hardik Patel-led reservation storm. But the BJP’s troubles — both in the state as well as at the Centre — appear to be far from over. The 22-year-old face of the Patel or Patidar agitation has already indicated his mind — of turning his fight into a nationwide stir and also roping in Gujjars and Jats, who are demanding a share of the OBC reservation pie.
The biggest worry before the ruling party is of caste-based reservation protests again gaining strength among Gujjars in Rajasthan, Marathas in Maharashtra and Jats in north — Haryana, Punjab, West UP and Rajasthan.

The Jat reservation issue has led to differences in the Haryana BJP which is ruling the state. Agitated Jat leaders, who have already threatened to block the national capital Delhi, from 28 September, have formed the Yuva Jat Fauj and started inducting members in large numbers to carry out their plan. In response, OBCs of Haryana, led by BJP MP from Kurukshetra, Rajkumar Saini, have announced the formation of one lakh strong OBC brigade to counter the Jat agitation.

The Indian Constitution doesn’t allow reservation on the basis of religion and the previous Maharashtra government did not violate the provisions of the Constitution. The five per cent quota was offered on the basis of caste, not on the basis of religion. The same ordinance also offered 16 per cent reservation for Marathas. Within days of it being promulgated, it was challenged in Mumbai High Court. The court rejected the Maratha reservation but upheld quota for Muslim backward classes. Interestingly, the BJP-Shiv Sena government went against that High court order and continued with reservation for Marathas.

The new government of Maharashtra has expressed helplessness saying that the ordinance died a natural death. But it is the responsibility of the government to re-enact an ordinance or convert it into a law. It was a deliberate failure on the part of the government. However, this is expected of the BJP which believes in communal and vindictive politics. The decision was taken only to hurt Muslims.

Today the Patels and Jatts agitation are giving jolts to the PM Modi’s government and made them realised the biased view they vetted against Muslims.Even uploading illicit video of the 22 year patidar leader in social media is not working. i It is called KHUDA KI LATHI MEN AAWAZ NAHIN HOTI (God’s ways work silently).

    Jai Hind

  2. Who is Hardik? These people appears to be more interested in destabilising country. There should not be any reservation in education or jobs. It should be based on merit than on cast or religion. Those who have financial hardship should be helped with loan.

These people need reservation in our jails.
