Russian embassy in Damascus comes under mortar fire

Damascus, Oct 13 (IANS) The Russian embassy in the Syrian capital was on Tuesday caught in mortar shelling carried out by rebel militant groups, although there were no casualties, the media reported.

The mortar shells landed when supporters gathered at the embassy to hail Moscow’s military intervention in Syria, an eyewitness told Xinhua news agency.

Russia has repeatedly emphasised that it supports Syria in its fight against the militant Islamic State group, adding that Moscow’s main goal was fighting terrorism.
