Hassan: The fact that the law-breakers could prove their clout and audacity by any means was proved yet again when Shobha Rani, the additional superintendent of police in Hassan district, narrowly escaped an attempt on her life on Saturday night.
She had gone to check illegal sand extraction and transportation in Sosote in Alur taluk. A group in a Mahindra Scorpio car is said to have mow her down.
While it was a close shave for her, one of the front tyres of the car burst in the act.
The occupants of the car fled the spot at once. However, the police managed to arrest seven persons including drivers and others who were engaged in the illegal trade.
The police are on the lookout for the culprits. The police officer appeared bold and unfazed after the incident.
She said that she would continue her drive against the illegal activities.
