Sarpanch shot in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 14 (IANS) A sarpanch (village headman) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district was critically injured after he was shot by separatist guerrillas on Tuesday, police said.

“Militants shot at Muhammad Yaqoob Malla, sarpanch of Pahlepora village, in Shopian town today afternoon. The injured sarpanch has been brought here for specialized treatment,” a senior police officer told IANS here.

“Searches have been started to nab the assailants,” he added.
