SC notice to Maharashtra on DU professor’s bail plea

New Delhi, Jan 22 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Maharashtra government on a plea by Delhi University professor G.N. Saibaba for bail in the case of his alleged links with the Revolutionary Democrats Front — an alleged front organisation of the banned CPML-Maoist.

The apex court bench of Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar and Justice C. Nagappan also issued notice on author and social activist Arundhati Roy’s plea challenging her summoning in a contempt plea.

While issuing notice returnable in two weeks, the court did not accept plea by Roy for exemption from appearing before the court in pursuance to her summoning.
