Second successful micro vascular Toe transfer performed at Father Muller Medical College Hospital

Mangaluru: Two young men who had lost their thumb and fingers while at work leaving them handicapped were brought back to their active and productive life by replacing their lost fingers with their own toes (fingers of the foot) by an advanced microsurgical technique. The above surgery was performed by an operating team lead by Dr Latheesh Leo, unit chief of Hand & Microsurgery, Department of Orthopaedics, Dr Kishan Shetty, Dr Gurumurthy & Dr Jerry James Joy from Department of Anaesthesia.

Young Man Regains his Lost Thumb and Hope!

Mangaluru: A young man who was a driver by occupation lost his right thumb; following an accident a year back. The lost thumb incapacitated him from doing his daily activities. He was evaluated and treated in Father Muller medical college hospital, unit of Hand & Microsurgery under Department of Orthopaedics.

The Seven hours long surgery were the patient’s own second toe was transferred from the right foot and made it as his new thumb. This unique and advanced microsurgery surgery was performed by a team of doctors led by Dr Latheesh Leo, Unit chief of Hand & Microsurgery, Dr Sagar.S, Dr Hilda; Anaesthesiologists and the supporting staffs.

The patient is showing good recovery and is expected to be fit for work in a month’s time.
