Update: Section 144 imposed in Beltangady, Bantwal, Sullia, and Puttur for 24 hours by the ADC and additional District Magistrate has been extended until June 21.

Mangaluru: After clashes between groups of two communities in Kalladka the Superintendent of Police requested the Deputy commissioner as well as the District Magistrate to impose section 144 in Beltangady, Bantwal, Sullia, and Puttur till July 14 midnight.

Accordingly, the ADC and also the Additional District Magistrate has clamped Section 144 in four taluks. On June 13, there was a clash between two groups and pelting of stones on each other. Some of the people were injured and shops and houses were damaged. To control the law and order situation in Kalladka and to avoid any further untoward incidents in other taluks, section 144 has been imposed in Beltangady, Bantwal, Sullia, and Puttur.

There will be no section in Mangaluru police commissionerate. In all the four Taluk’s, Section 144 will continue until June 14 midnight. With the section 144 in place, a gathering of more than five persons at one place, carrying any weapons and activities disturbing the peace with the bursting of crackers, pelting stones or carrying similar things, shouting provocative slogans, displaying pictures of persons or holding processions is banned.
