Security heightened in UP for Eid

Lucknow, Sep 12 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh government has made elaborate security arrangements here and other ‘sensitive’ places in the state for Eid celebrations on Tuesday, an official said on Monday.

The local intelligence units (LIU) were sensitised, and the police force was put on high alert.

An official told IANS that additional forces were deployed in Agra, Firozabad, Moradabad, Bijnor, Kanpur and Lucknow districts.

In Lucknow alone, mostly in the old city, over 2,000 policemen were deployed for the festival and they would be supervised by 25 senior police officials.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjil Saini had checked the old city area on Sunday night.

Route marches were conducted in several places, an official said.

Peace Committees comprising people from both Muslim and Hindu communities had also met over the past few days under the supervision of the police.
