Seven Fishermen Rescued After Boat Capsizes

Udupi: Seven fishermen were rescued after their boat capsized at Devghad in Maharashtra on Tuesday, April 9.

The rescued fishermen have been identified as Sunil Manjunath, Suresh Manjunath, Jagannath Ram, Prashanth, Gajendra Panduranga, Krishna Mogera and Lohith. All the fishermen are from Bhatkal.

The boat ‘Shiva Raksha’ owned by Dinesh Thingalya went for fishing from Malpe, in the rough seas, a wooden plank from the bottom of the boat broke causing the seawater to flood into the boat. Due to the turbulent sea, it was impossible to tow the boat, taking in more water the boat finally sank. Nearby fishing boats rushed the spot and rescued the fishermen.

The total loss has been estimated to be around Rs 90 lakhs
