Sex addicts may not like porn as thought

New York, Nov 22 (IANS) Sexual desire in some people has nothing to do with addiction to porn, finds a new survey, adding that some “sex addicts” do not watch more porn as perceived earlier and actually feel more shameful about it.

According to Croatian researchers, high sexual desire is not a facet of so-called “sex addiction”.

The survey, reported by www.bustle.com, analysed 1,998 men who were placed in three groups — hypersexual disorder, those who experienced high sex drive and the control group.

The findings showed that crossover between men who fell into the hypersexual disorder group and men who fell into the high sex drive group was negligible.

“Men in the (hypersexual disorder) group had significantly higher odds of being single, not exclusively heterosexual, religious, depressed, prone to sexual boredom, experiencing substance abuse consequences, holding negative attitudes toward pornography use, and evaluating one’s sexual morality more negatively,” the researchers noted.

“In contrast, the (high sex drive) group differed from controls only in reporting more positive attitudes toward pornography use,” they wrote in a paper published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy.

In simpler terms, so called “sex addicts” were not found to experience more engagement with pornography than their counterparts.
