Sham Bhat Not Right Candidate for KPSC Chief – Poojary

Mangaluru: Senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary held a press meet at the district Congress Office here, on May 28.

Addressing the mediapersons, Janardhan Poojary said that there are various allegations on BDA commissioner Sham Bhat and the chief minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah is defending his candidature as the KPSC chief. “If Sham Bhat will be appointed as the chief of KPSC, the Congress party will become weak.” Poojary urged the governor through the media, to make the chief minister understand this and not appoint Sham Bhat as the chief of KPSC.

Poojary further said that there are 6 crore people in the state and a corruption free person should be appointed as the chief of KPSC instead of Sham Bhat. Recalling the speech of CM Siddaramaiah, Poojary said that the CM had promised to fight against corruption. “Now why is he selecting a corrupt man as the KPSC chief? Why is the CM putting the high command in shame?” he questioned.

Yettinahole project

Regarding the Yettinahole project, Poojary said that a retaining wall is been constructed now so that the flow of water to the district is stopped. “Instead of building a retaining wall, let them build a dam so that the dam can be opened when water is needed for the district. The people of Dakshina Kannada are not fools, so it is better to drop the project,” said Poojary.

Police protest

Commenting on protests by the police, he said that the duty of the police is to protect us. “If they protest, who will protect us? There is fear of terror attacks and many law and order incidents in the state. It is high time to provide basic facilities to the police. the police in Karnataka are leading a pathetic life. They do not have proper toilets, no proper quarters and always work under pressure. If they do not get good remuneration, how can the police lead a normal life? The government should provide proper facilities to the police. In Karnataka, after working for 10 years in the police department, the salary is Rs 18,000 whereas in the nearby state of Telangana, the police get Rs 35,000 per month.”

Poojary further questioned, “How much salary do our ministers and politicians get? How many times have their salaries been reviewed and increased? Why then, is there such partiality to increase the salary of the police?”

“In the gulf countries, the police get a salary of Rs 3.5 lakh; in London, police get a good salary. We are not asking to give in lakhs but to pay them a decent salary to lead a normal life. Where is our old Siddaramaiah?

“When Narasimha Rao was the prime minister, the BJP was criticizing the Congress’ use of his photos saying that it was all for publicity. But now, the BJP and Sangh Parivar are using Modi’s photos everywhere for publicity. Why the double standards? Does Modi have control over his ministers and MPs when they are inciting communal violence? Does he have the power to stop them from delivering inciting speeches which divide the country?” Poojary questioned.

Former Mayor Ajit Kumar, Mahabala Marla and others were also present.

  1. Thank you Jananna. You have a valid point. We have a problem here in identifying who is not corrupt. Your opinion is considered. Regards

  2. There seems to be a ‘press meet’ by Kaangress members every day!!! Also, it is interesting to see how most of these press meets are held without any representation from elected members. For trained eyes, it clearly shows a rift between different factions of Congress party in mangalooru region.
