Sharjah: Two-day Vishwa Kannada Samskruthi Sammelana Concludes

UAE: Sharjah Karnataka Sangha and Hrudayavahini Karnataka celebrated the extravagant 12th Vishwa Kannada Samskruthi Sammelana in Sharjah on November 21, at the Al Boom Tourist Village which is near Wanderer’s Club Playground, Sharjah.

The second-day of the celebrations started with the Kannada flag hoisting by the president of Sammelana G S Siddharamayya, Sathish Venkataramana President of KSS, Manjunatha Sagar President of Sammelana Samithi and committee members present.

Further Sugandha Raj Bekal Vice president of KSS gave a warm welcome to the gathering followed by classical welcome dance by Rohini Ananth and team.

Variety of Kannada related dances and songs entertained the gathering throughout the programme.

M B Kudari Gokak presided over the “Kavi goshti”. Prabha Suvarna Mumbai, Prakash Rao, Gopinath Rao, M E Moolur, Iranna Moolimane, Manohar Melmane recited their poetry in a very attractive and elegant way.

Prihali Harish, budding child artiste from Mangalore exhibited her rare talents and proficiency in the field of dance and enthralled the audience. Later she was awarded the “Bala Prathibha Rathna”.

Noted singer Harish Sherigar and team entertained the huge audience by their melodious old Kannada songs.

The prestigious Mayura Award ceremony started with a grand procession with the chariot of Kannada and welcoming all the guests and dignitaries to the stage with the background of Punchavadya with Kerala Chande beats.

Mayura Award 2015 was bestowed upon Praveen Shetty in the presence of Dr B R Shetty, Sathish Venkataramana, MLA Moideen Bava, Jafrulla Khan Mandya, Fr Maxim Pinto, Malyaa Shantha Muni Sawamiji, Y A Rahim, Sarvotham Shetty and Mark Dennis D’Souza.

DR Aikalabava Deviprasad Shetty Udupi for Rural development, Dawood Abubaker for Technical Services, Anne Gowda for Social service, D V Nagaraj Nayak for technical field and Vijayalaxmi Jeethendra in the field of Bharathanatyam were felicitated with Vishwa Kannada Sammelana award for their contribution in their respective fields.

Karnataka Hirime Prashasthi was awarded to the Ex-Presidents of KSS Mark Dennis D’Souza, Prabhakar Ambalathere, Noel Almeida, Sathish Poojari and Shantharam Achar.

Go Na Swami and Priya Harish Shetty of Nammakudla fame compered the programme, Ganesh Rai compered the felicitation ceremony.

The second-day 12th Vishwa Kannada Samskruthi Sammelana concluded with a message which definitely served the purpose of spreading rich traditional culture and heritage of Kannada globally.
