Shivaji is known for his administration, patriotism – ADC Anuradha

Udupi: The birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji was observed with traditional fervour in the State Home Nittur here on Sunday, February 19.

Anuradha additional DC inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and paid floral tributes to the portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

In her inaugural message Anuradha said that Shivaji was known for his administration, extraordinary courage and patriotism Shivaji Maharaj placed wellbeing of his people above everything. He was an ideal ruler blessed with exceptional administrative skills. People should follow the ideals, discipline and patriotism of Chhatrapati Shivaji, she added.

In his special lecture on Chhatrapati Shivaji, Adarsh Gokhale lecturer of Karkala College said that Shivaji was one of the greatest heroes that India had ever produced. He has left undeniable footprints in the history of India with his persistent struggles, daring action, immense sacrifices and great adventures.

Recalling the inspiration of Shivaji, A small country from South –East, like Vietnam was fighting for a number of years against the most powerful country in the world the USA which had even nuclear weapons and still won the war with the inspiration of Chhatrapati. Chhatrapati had defeated the Mughals with the same guerilla tactics. Vietnamese soldiers followed the same path. The President of Vietnam had said after winning the battle that they had followed the strategy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and therefore, they could defeat powerful America.

Vietnam’s Minister while on a visit to India a few years ago. As per the protocol, she was taken to see the Red Fort and ‘samadhi’ of Mahatma Gandhi. After seeing that, she asked where was the ‘samadhi’ of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj? The Indian officers were quite taken aback on hearing her question. They informed her that it was at Raigad in Maharashtra. She said that she wanted to go there and pay her obeisance. She could not go back without prostrating before his ‘samadhi’ who was the inspiration behind their country to defeat the most powerful country like the USA. The life of Shivaji is an inspiration for every generation of Indians.

Shivaji was a shrewd warrior as well as an able administrator. By mobilizing an army of tribal Mavala people, he challenged the dominance of Moghuls. Shivaji took the initiative for the welfare of his subjects. The politicians of the present generation should draw inspiration from the administrative policies of Shivaji, he added.

Tahsildar Mahesh Chandra, Women and child department director Gracy Gonsalves, Huligevva Joger, Anil, Keshava Rao, Dinesh Naik, Poornima and others were present.
